Electrical Installation and Testing

With the advent of Part P of the building regulations introduced in 2005, it became a legal requirement to notify certain types of electrical work. ANY new circuit anywhere in the home, or ANY modification to circuits in 'special' locations, are required to be notified to local authority building control. Organisations like Wire Test Co., who can self certify their electrical work, can do the notifications for you, after the work is completed, and organise a building control compliance certificate relating to the work to be sent to you. If you wish to do notifiable work yourself, you must notify your local authority building control BEFORE you start, and wait for approval from them. It will then need to be inspected and tested to see that it is safe to use. It is safe to say that the cost of notifying building control yourself is considerably higher than using a self certifying company like Wire Test Co. If you do non notifiable work yourself, it still needs to be inspected and certified to say it's safe to use. If this is not done and a subsequent claim made on insurance after fire or other damage, there could be problems with the insurance payout.
Wire Test Co. is approved by NAPIT to carry out notifiable work and continually assessed by them to ensure we meet the high standards set by the electrical industry. We can also inspect and test your own non notifiable work and put your mind at rest. By using a NAPIT registered member to carry out electrical work in your home you can be assured that the work is completed to the latest edition of the wiring regulations, currently 17th edition BS 7671.
Wire Test Co. carries out all forms of domestic electrical work from complete rewires to simply changing light fittings and socket 0utlets. We also take on Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and periodic inspections.
