The rainwater guttering on this stable block was long past it's best and basically falling off, as you can clearly see here. In addition to leaking guttering, the fascia boards holding it on had rotted and so had the ends of the rafters holding the facias in turn! The underfelt immediately at the back of the guttering was shredded and degraded. The owner decided to have the entire lot replaced, that's new rafter ends, new felt pieces, and new fascia boards, then new guttering all round the front.

It can be seen quite clearly here that the rafter ends wouldn't hold a new fascia board, so they had to be cut back and replaced. In the far right picture the downpipe is coming in at a really unsuitable angle for where it is, ie, if a horse came out of the stable in a panic and with his head up, he'd take the downpipe with him!

With new rafter ends, the fascias could be renewed and then the new guttering applied. The downpipes were lifted out of the way of horses heads! Altogether a leak free and much better looking set up than the original!
